Demetrius Lamar killed in Clayton County pedestrian crash, GSP reports

ATLANTA, GA (April 1, 2026) — A 58-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a truck on Interstate 285 in Clayton County.

Authorities identified the victim as Demetrius A. Lamar. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Lamar was hit in the westbound lanes near Riverdale Road at Exit 60.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle involved was reportedly a FedEx truck.

The crash led to the closure of westbound lanes for several hours as crews conducted an investigation and cleared the scene. Traffic began reopening around 8:45 a.m.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, an experienced tractor-trailer accident attorney, stated that in these types of cases, it is crucial to initiate an independent investigation as soon as possible to safeguard a victim’s rights.

“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex, and many different factors can contribute to these accidents,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“A qualified attorney can protect victims from trucking companies, which frequently deploy their own investigators and have significant resources to defend a negligent driver.

“Your lawyer can support your case by hiring expert witnesses, reviewing the driver’s history, locating witnesses, and examining insurance coverage, while guiding victims through the legal process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Demetrius Lamar may seek compensation for damages including funeral expenses, loss of income, and loss of companionship, among other hardships.

“A death to a family member after an accident is both tragic and devastating to a surviving family. The grief, shock, and anger can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

He added, “Beyond the emotional toll, the loss of a loved one can create serious financial strain. Loss of income and funeral expenses alone can have lasting consequences for a family.”
