Delivery van failed to yield in Walworth injuring Michelle VanHout

WALWORTH, NY, (May 12, 2026) – A Marion woman was injured Tuesday in a multi-vehicle crash involving a delivery van at a Walworth intersection, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities identified the injured driver as Michelle VanHout.

Investigators said VanHout was operating a Jeep when it was struck by a delivery van that allegedly failed to yield at the intersection of Canandaigua Road and Route 441.

The impact pushed VanHout’s Jeep south onto Canandaigua Road, where it collided with a pickup truck, officials said.

VanHout was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Drivers who have the right-of-way are entitled to proceed safely through intersections, and other motorists are required to yield accordingly.

According to Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, many failure-to-yield crashes are caused by driver negligence. Distracted driving, impatience, and reckless behavior are among the common contributing factors in these types of collisions. Statistics show that nearly 40 percent of all vehicle crashes occur at intersections.

Regardless of the conclusions reached in a police investigation, Bond emphasized the importance of an independent investigation to preserve evidence and protect the rights of injured victims.

“In addition to the work performed by law enforcement, an attorney can gather evidence needed to demonstrate that a driver acted negligently or recklessly, which often requires significant investigative resources,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national legal analyst with Accident Injury News.

“Legal counsel can re-examine witness statements, review surveillance footage from the area, and obtain relevant phone and text records from the responsible party. An attorney can also help guide injured victims and their families through the legal process while protecting their rights and working to hold negligent drivers accountable,” Bond added.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Michelle VanHout may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted that the emotional and financial stress following a serious injury can disrupt every aspect of a victim’s life, including family responsibilities, employment, and overall well-being.

“While financial compensation cannot erase the trauma caused by a serious collision, it is important that injured victims understand their legal rights and the remedies available to them under the law,” Bond said.

“The injured party in this crash may be entitled to pursue compensation for damages such as medical expenses, future treatment costs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress resulting from the accident.”
