David Sampson tragically killed in Savage motorcycle accident

SAVAGE, Minn. – The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash between a motorcycle and car on July 10.

The collision occurred at 1:48 p.m. at the intersection of southbound Highway 13 and McColl Drive when a car traveling eastbound struck a motorcycle. The crash happened on dry road conditions during afternoon hours.

David Lawrence Sampson, 54, of Prior Lake died in the accident while riding his 1999 Victory V92 motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

A 19-year-old Shakopee woman drove the 2018 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on McColl Drive when the vehicles collided. Her vehicle’s airbags deployed during the impact, but she sustained no injuries.

The teenage driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not transported to a medical facility. Alcohol was not involved in the crash for either party.

Multiple agencies responded to the fatal accident scene. Savage Police Department, Savage Fire Department, Allina EMS, and Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted with the emergency response.

The Minnesota State Patrol continues investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal intersection collision between the motorcycle and passenger vehicle.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

“Motorcyclists are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the road,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Motorcycle deaths in Minnesota have hit concerning numbers, with 74 riders losing their lives in crashes in 2024—that’s a significant increase from the 64 deaths seen five years back in 2020. The state hit a 38-year high in 2022 with 82 fatalities, and while 2024’s numbers are lower than that peak, they still represent a troubling trend for rider safety on our roads.

Bond, a seasoned motorcycle accident attorney, emphasized the need for an independent investigation in cases like this to ensure the victim’s family receives proper legal protection.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must be thoroughly examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of David Sampson may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Bond.

“We understand just what families must go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
