JOLIET, Ill. — A 57-year-old Plainfield man died Saturday evening after his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and caused a multi-vehicle crash at Black Road and Magnolia Drive.
David Nelson was driving westbound on Black Road in a Buick Regal when he veered into the eastbound lane at 6:54 p.m. His vehicle struck a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 26-year-old Joliet man traveling eastbound.
The collision caused Nelson’s Buick to then strike a Buick Encore driven by a 68-year-old Joliet woman. A 69-year-old man from Lake Station, Indiana, was riding as a passenger in the Encore.
Emergency crews transported Nelson to Prime St. Joseph Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The 68-year-old driver and her 69-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The 26-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was not injured in the collision.
The Joliet Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal crash. No additional details about the cause were immediately released.
