David Daniels killed in Amarillo hit-and-run; driver fled, police say

AMARILLO, TX, (April 27, 2026) – A man was killed and another injured in a hit-and-run crash Monday night in Amarillo, according to the Amarillo Police Department.

Officers reported that two men and a dog were struck at approximately 10:34 p.m. by a white pickup truck at the intersection of S.W. 3rd Avenue and McMasters Street. Authorities said the driver fled the scene without stopping.

One of the victims, 61-year-old David Joe Daniels, was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. A 55-year-old man sustained minor injuries in the crash. The condition of the dog has not been disclosed.

The Amarillo Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Squad is actively investigating the incident. At this time, no suspect information has been released.

Authorities continue to search for the driver involved.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In many hit-and-run incidents, at-fault drivers attempt to escape responsibility by leaving the scene. However, once identified, the suspect can still face serious criminal charges.

Leaving the scene of a crash remains a crime, and statistics show that more than one hit-and-run accident occurs every minute across U.S. roadways.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, emphasized that an independent investigation is crucial in these cases and should be initiated quickly to safeguard victims’ rights.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Factors such as road conditions, visibility, and lighting are among the elements that investigators review carefully.

These steps are essential in helping families who have lost loved ones pursue justice and obtain the financial compensation they may be entitled to.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of David Daniels may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages following a tragic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families endure during such difficult times, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure their legal interests are represented.”
