David Allen Dies in Dallas DUI-Related Pedestrian Collision

DALLAS, TX (January 01, 2026) — A pedestrian crash in the Preston Hollow neighborhood on New Year’s Day claimed the life of a Dallas County man, according to police.

Authorities said a 2017 silver Chevrolet Camaro sideswiped a truck on Stone Canyon Road before striking a jogger along the roadway. The victim, identified as David Allen, was pronounced dead following the collision.

Police reported that Allen’s wife contacted authorities after he failed to return from his run. Jaylon Dews, the driver of the Camaro, called 911 and admitted to hitting Allen.

Dews was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. The incident remains under investigation by the Dallas Police Department.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Despite enforcement efforts nationwide, impaired driving continues to pose a serious risk to innocent motorists and pedestrians.

Alcohol consumption significantly reduces a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 13,524 of the 42,514 people killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2022 were involved in alcohol-related incidents.

An independent investigation may be necessary to identify additional contributing factors, including determining blood-alcohol concentration levels at the time of the crash.

Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal and an experienced DUI accident attorney, offered insight into incidents of this nature.

“Separate from any criminal proceedings, victims may have the right to pursue compensation through a civil claim,” said Bond. “Beyond the work performed by law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview witnesses, review surveillance footage, and obtain phone and text records from the responsible party. Acting as an advocate, counsel can compassionately support victims and families during a difficult period while protecting their legal rights and helping ensure impaired drivers are held accountable for their actions.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is generally a motorist’s responsibility to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of David Allen may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Families who lose a loved one in a fatal accident may seek compensation for lost income, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, funeral costs, and emotional distress,” Formica said.

By serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide families through this challenging time while ensuring their legal rights are protected.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to resolve claims quickly for far less than their true value,” Formica added. “An attorney will aggressively advocate to ensure clients are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
