DETROIT — A man was struck and killed by two vehicles in a hit-and-run crash June 19 on Detroit’s west side.
Darrnell Scott was leaving a gas station when he was fatally struck while crossing Seven Mile Road near Gilchrist. Gas station surveillance cameras captured Scott exiting the store seconds before the deadly collision occurred June 19.
Scott was struck by the first vehicle around 10:30 p.m. A second vehicle then ran over Scott as he lay in the roadway. Neither driver stopped at the scene. Both drivers fled the area immediately after striking Scott. Detroit police arrived to find Scott deceased in the roadway.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced Scott dead at the scene. Investigators have launched a search for both vehicles involved in crash.
Detroit police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the hit-and-run incident. Authorities believe witnesses may have observed the collision or the vehicles involved.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
A fundraiser has been established to help Scott’s family cover funeral expenses.
