Darren and Iliyah Moore die in fiery I-20 Greene County crash

GREENE COUNTY, GA (June 27, 2026) — Three people were killed Saturday morning following a fiery two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 eastbound in Greene County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 6:22 a.m. near milepost 138 when a gray Ford Mustang traveling east in the left lane struck the rear of a maroon Nissan Maxima. The impact caused the Mustang to leave the roadway, strike a tree, and catch fire. Investigators said two passengers were ejected from the vehicle.

Twenty-year-old Darren Moore was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His wife, 19-year-old Iliyah Moore, was pronounced dead at the scene. A third occupant, a 21-year-old man, was also taken to a hospital and died later that afternoon.

The driver of the Nissan Maxima was not injured.

The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the crash and is asking anyone with information to contact investigators.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Numerous factors contribute to the rise in traffic fatalities, with driver behavior remaining one of the leading causes. Speeding, impaired driving, and distracted driving—particularly cellphone use—continue to play major roles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

While investigators continue to determine the cause of the collision and any potential liability, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this one, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of a victim may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death attorney will remain informed about the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are protected.”
