Danielle Leveque dies after Lakeland Village traffic collision

LAKELAND VILLAGE, CA, January 05, 2026 — A 57-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle late Monday night while crossing a street at a Lakeland Village intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities said Danielle Leveque was walking southbound on Grand Avenue near Stoneman Street shortly after 11 p.m. when she attempted to cross the roadway and was struck by a southbound 2010 Toyota Prius traveling at an estimated speed of 45 mph.

Leveque was thrown a short distance by the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not injured and remained at the location following the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Pedestrians and other vulnerable road users face significantly greater risks when sharing roadways with motor vehicles, underscoring the importance of drivers exercising heightened caution and yielding the right-of-way when required. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian deaths have increased at a rate nearly seven times higher than overall U.S. population growth over the past decade.

“In most situations, pedestrians have the legal right of way when crossing an intersection or roadway, even when a marked crosswalk is not present,” said Candice Bond, a veteran pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of initiating an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney to help safeguard a victim’s family’s rights in cases such as this.

In incidents like these, time is a critical factor, as prompt evidence preservation and review can be essential to determining the sequence of events.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always the responsibility of a driver to yield to a pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Danielle Leveque may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Families who lose a loved one in a fatal accident may seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress,” Formica explained. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can provide compassionate guidance during this difficult period while ensuring that a family’s legal rights are protected.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to pressure families into accepting quick settlements that do not reflect the true value of a claim,” Formica added. “An attorney, however, can aggressively advocate on a client’s behalf to ensure fair treatment and just compensation.”
