Daniel Youngelman Hurt After Motorcycle vs SUV Crash in St. James NY

SAINT JAMES, NY, (May 18, 2026) – A 29-year-old Smithtown man was hospitalized with serious injuries Monday evening following a motorcycle crash in St. James, Suffolk County, according to police.

Authorities said Daniel Youngelman was riding a 2016 KTM motorcycle eastbound on Middle Country Road around 7:05 p.m. when a 2014 Honda Pilot traveling westbound attempted to make a left turn onto Southern Boulevard. The SUV collided with the motorcycle in the intersection.

Emergency responders transported Youngelman to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Honda Pilot, a 66-year-old woman from Centereach, was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Suffolk County Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Detectives with the Fourth Squad continue to investigate the collision. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Suffolk County Police at 631-854-8452.

Motorcyclists such as Daniel Youngelman face heightened risk on roadways due to factors like driver blind spots, distracted driving, left-turn violations, and inexperienced motorists.

According to the National Safety Council, approximately 82,000 people are injured in motorcycle crashes each year across the United States.

Candice Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation in cases like this to preserve key evidence for victims.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully examine all potential contributing factors to the crash,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Your lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks on drivers, locate witnesses, and review insurance coverage. An attorney can also help guide injured victims and their families through the legal process while ensuring that negligent drivers are held accountable,” Bond added, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Like Daniel Youngelman, individuals injured in collisions may have multiple legal options to recover compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and emotional suffering.

“An attorney will carefully evaluate all contributing factors in the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, identify witnesses, and review insurance coverage,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

He added, “The benefit of pursuing a claim through an attorney is that legal counsel can negotiate directly with insurance companies. Insurers often attempt to settle quickly for less than a claim is worth, but an attorney will advocate to ensure the client is treated fairly and receives appropriate compensation.”
