ORANGEVILLE, N.Y. — Authorities are investigating a fatal head-on accident that happened May 2 while police were pursuing a vehicle reported stolen. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on Route 20A near the Warsaw town line at 8:22 a.m.
A Warsaw Police Department officer began chasing a blue BMW west on W. Buffalo Street at 8:20 a.m. Two minutes later, the BMW crashed head-on into an eastbound SUV on Route 20A.
Daniel Abbott, 48, suffered fatal injuries. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The SUV driver, a 48-year-old male from East Aurora, was transported to Erie County Medical Center with critical injuries.
Police found the BMW on fire when they arrived, extinguished the flames, and pulled the driver from the vehicle. The driver, a 19-year-old male from Buffalo, was taken to Wyoming County Community Hospital and died from his injuries. Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
