Dania Beach DUI Crash Kills Passenger Oleksii Maksymov

DANIA BEACH, FL, (July 04, 2026) – Oleksii Maksymov was killed in a crash allegedly caused by a drunk driver on Friday in Dania Beach.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Maksymov was riding as a passenger in a 2020 BMW M8 driven by 38-year-old Vladimir Mushenko, who was allegedly speeding in the 200 block of East Dania Beach Boulevard at approximately 6 p.m. when he struck a curb, overcorrected, and lost control of the vehicle.

The BMW then slid sideways across a curbed median and crossed into the westbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS. Maksymov was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger in the BMW sustained injuries in the crash. The driver of the Mercedes and her four passengers were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.

Mushenko was also taken to the hospital, where testing showed his blood alcohol content was .197%, more than double Florida’s legal limit of 0.08%. He now faces 22 charges, including vehicular homicide, DUI causing death, and reckless driving causing damage to person or property.

FATAL DWI CRASH INVESTIGATION

Roughly 1,000 people are killed each year in Florida in crashes involving alcohol-impaired driving.

That figure represents 23.3% of all traffic fatalities statewide, and Florida’s rate of alcohol-related driving deaths per 100,000 residents exceeds the national average.

Impaired drivers often experience diminished judgment, blurred vision, slower coordination, and delayed reaction times. Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, weighed in on cases like this one.

“Separate from criminal charges, a victim’s family may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and text records of the liable party. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights while ensuring that a drunk driver is held accountable for their reckless actions.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The relatives of Oleksii Maksymov could be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of those lost in wrongful death cases may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress resulting from a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their best interests are taken care of. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”

Additionally, those who were injured in this crash may have grounds to pursue a personal injury lawsuit.
