MIAMI, Fla. — Miami-Dade police continue to search for the suspect in a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a pedestrian on May 31 in the city’s northwest.
Officers said the crash happened near the intersection of N.W. 17th Avenue and 118th Street around 3 p.m.
Damaris Garcia, 36, was crossing the road with her boyfriend when a dark-colored Nissan SUV struck her and drove away with no regard for the victim. Paramedics transported Garcia to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center with multiple life-threatening injuries.
The driver did not stop and abandoned the vehicle nearby. Officers confirmed no one was in the SUV when they found it.
Relatives said Garcia suffered a broken leg, hip fractures, facial wounds requiring stitches, and bleeding in her brain.
Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Miami-Dade Police Department with information.
