Dallas Police: Mohammad Obeidat Killed in Alleged DWI Crash

DALLAS, TX, (May 27, 2026) – Mohammad Obeidat tragically lost his life early Wednesday morning in a suspected drunk driving accident along Interstate 635 in Dallas, according to police authorities.

Investigators said Obeidat was standing outside a tow truck that was loading a disabled vehicle onto a flatbed near Preston Road at approximately 12:30 a.m. when a pickup truck slammed into the tow truck. The impact fatally injured Obeidat at the scene.

Police identified the driver of the pickup truck as 53-year-old Robert Watson. Authorities said Watson told officers he had been traveling from West Texas to Garland to stay with a friend and admitted to consuming “1 1/1 cans” of beer before getting behind the wheel.

Watson has since been charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with the crash. Court records indicate he had prior DWI-related arrests in 1994, 2007, 2013, and 2015.

The fatal collision remains under investigation by Dallas police.

FATAL DWI CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, last year, 963 people were killed and 2,114 seriously injured due to drunk drivers.

Alcohol impairment can negatively affect a driver’s judgment, coordination, reaction time, and vision, greatly increasing the likelihood of catastrophic accidents. Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, addressed the serious nature of crashes involving impaired motorists.

“Beyond any criminal proceedings, the victim’s loved ones could have the right to pursue compensation through a civil action against the responsible party,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “In addition to the work conducted by investigators, an attorney can independently review surveillance footage, speak with witnesses, and secure relevant phone and text records tied to the liable driver. An experienced advocate can help families protect their legal rights while seeking accountability after a devastating impaired-driving crash.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Mohammad Obeidat may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of victims killed in fatal crashes can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

“We understand the tremendous hardships families face after a sudden loss, and protecting their legal rights is extremely important,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s interests remain protected. Loved ones of wrongful death victims may pursue damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
