Dallas Hit-and-Run Kills Truck Driver Abel Zamudio Gamboa

DALLAS, TX (July 15, 2026) — A truck driver was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday while changing a tire on the shoulder of Interstate 20 in Dallas County, according to investigators.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Abel Zamudio Gamboa, 39.

Authorities said Gamboa was changing a tire on the shoulder of Interstate 20 shortly after midnight when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver fled the scene without stopping to render aid or report the collision.

During the investigation, authorities determined the suspect vehicle was believed to be a white or light-colored Chevrolet Express or GMC Savana van with likely damage to the vehicle’s right side.

Investigators later learned that a local business reported one of its company vans had returned with damage matching the description. According to authorities, the driver told her employer that she believed she had struck a dog.

A 28-year-old woman was later arrested without incident and booked into the Dallas County Jail on a charge of collision involving death.

The investigation remains ongoing.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of a collision is a criminal offense, yet statistics indicate that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on roadways across the United States.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said that in cases like this, it is important for a seasoned attorney to conduct an independent investigation as soon as possible to help protect the rights of a victim and their family.

“Having the necessary resources is critical when investigating a hit-and-run case and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Road conditions, visibility, roadway lighting, and other contributing factors should all be carefully evaluated during the investigation,” Bond added.

These investigative steps can help families who have lost a loved one in a hit-and-run collision pursue justice and seek the financial compensation they may be entitled to.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the victim’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

“The grief and emotional strain after losing a loved one in a collision can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficult circumstances families face, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can remain informed about the official investigation while helping ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are fully protected.”
