Custer County Two-Car Wreck Kills Rodney Ray & Kathy Neufeld

ARAPAHO, OK — June 25, 2026 — Two people were killed Thursday afternoon when two vehicles collided at an intersection in Custer County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

The crash occurred at approximately 4:55 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 183 and East 960 Road, located outside of Arapaho.

OHP identified the deceased as Rodney Ray Neufeld, 75, who was driving one of the vehicles, and Kathy Neufeld, 73, who was a passenger in the same vehicle. Both sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 37-year-old man from Kingston, was also injured in the crash. The nature and severity of his injuries have not been specified.

Authorities have not disclosed what caused the two vehicles to collide. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under active investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), approximately 40 percent of car collisions occur at road intersections, with the cause often linked to drivers running stop signs or red lights. Factors such as impatience, reckless behavior, and distracted driving are among the most common reasons motorists fail to obey traffic controls.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 39,345 people lost their lives in traffic-related crashes across the United States in 2024, with Oklahoma accounting for 642 of those fatalities.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“Blind spots, inexperienced drivers, and distracted motorists often cause these types of collisions. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family during this difficult time while ensuring that a driver is held accountable if they do not obey traffic laws,” added Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Rodney and Kathy Neufeld may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress in the wake of a catastrophic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that the victim’s legal rights and best interests are protected.”
