Springfield man Cullen Beshers fatally killed in suspected drunk-driving accident

A 26-year-old Springfield motorcyclist, Cullen Beshers, was killed Sunday evening in a DWI crash on West Bypass in Greene County.

Police said a Volkswagen Tiguan, driven by 41-year-old Jimmy Waweru, turned into Beshers’ path from Grand Street, causing a collision that fatally injured the motorcyclist.

Waweru was arrested Monday and booked into Greene County Jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

DUI MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact them at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477) or online at p3tips.com.

This accident was clearly preventable. Impaired drivers like Waweru are a risk to everyone on the road and can senselessly ruin people’s lives.

Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable on America’s roads. Motorcycles often aren’t seen by other drivers, and those riding motorcycles are in grave danger upon impact.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 37 people die in drunk driving crashes each day, and about 32% of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drunken drivers.

“Drunken and drugged drivers are subject to criminal charges following an accident or collision that causes harm or kills another person,” explained Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

She added, “Separate from criminal charges, a victim’s family may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Cullen Beshers may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and protecting their rights is crucial. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are fully safeguarded,” Bond added.
