CSX train hits pedestrian Bobby Skidmore in Charlotte NC

CHARLOTTE, NC – April 13, 2026 – A 39-year-old man died Monday evening after being struck by a train in Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

Officials reported that a CSX train hit Bobby Joe Skidmore at approximately 6:09 p.m. in the 1900 block of Sardis Road North near the Galleria Boulevard crossing.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Skidmore was pronounced deceased due to his injuries.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported among individuals onboard the train.

The incident remains under investigation, and officials are asking anyone with information to contact CMPD at 704-432-2169 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN TRAIN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Train-related incidents such as this may occur due to several possible factors, including operator error, track defects, mechanical malfunction, signal system failure, or unsafe actions near railway crossings. Investigators will also review whether the area where the victim was struck was properly secured and designated for pedestrian safety.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), nearly 1,000 individuals lose their lives each year in train-related accidents across the United States.

Candice Bond, an experienced train accident attorney, stressed the importance of an immediate independent investigation to preserve critical evidence for the family.

“A skilled attorney can help protect grieving families from large railroad companies that often deploy rapid-response investigators and possess significant resources to defend against liability,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Following the outcome of the investigation, the family of Bobby Skidmore may have legal grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims may include compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and the profound impact of losing a loved one in a sudden tragedy.

“The emotional toll following a fatal accident can be overwhelming for families,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “It is crucial that families understand their rights and have proper legal guidance. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and ensure their interests remain protected throughout the legal process.”
