Crow Agency woman killed in Montana I-90 rollover accident, MHP says

Sweet Grass, MT, (May 03, 2026) – A 41-year-old Crow Agency woman was killed Sunday morning in a rollover crash on Interstate 90 in Sweet Grass County, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m. near mile marker 374 when a Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound swerved and overturned.

The passenger, identified as a 41-year-old woman from Crow Agency, was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old driver was transported to Pioneer Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

Officials indicated that impairment, speed, drugs, and alcohol are all being considered as possible contributing factors. The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

The NHTSA identifies speeding as the primary cause of traffic collisions, followed by impairment due to alcohol, drugs, or medication, failure to maintain lane position, failure to yield, and distracted driving.

Regardless of the outcome of the official investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized the importance of an independent inquiry to secure evidence and safeguard the rights of a victim’s family.

The NHTSA reports that 40,901 people died in motor vehicle crashes nationwide in 2023, including 206 fatalities in Montana.

“Factors such as roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting must all be carefully evaluated,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“It is critical to determine the exact cause of accidents like this. Attorneys have the resources to review insurance policies, engage expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and identify key witnesses. We guide families through every step of the process.”

“In certain cases, accident reconstruction specialists are required to fully understand what occurred. These resources are essential to help families pursue compensation for their losses,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of the victim may have the option to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families who lose a loved one in a tragic accident can seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and pain and suffering.

“The grief experienced after such a loss can be overwhelming,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are represented.”

“An attorney can also protect families from insurance companies and their legal teams while carefully examining all aspects of the case. Legal counsel will advocate to ensure that victims’ rights are upheld.”

Additionally, the injured driver may be eligible to pursue a personal injury claim. “Injured individuals often seek compensation for medical expenses, future care, lost income, and emotional distress following a serious crash,” Bond noted.
