LARGO, Fla. — A driver struck a mother and her child May 8 in a Walmart parking lot on Roosevelt Boulevard, causing serious injuries.
At 8:45 p.m., a 32-year-old female drove a Jaguar sedan recklessly through the lot. She hit multiple vehicles before striking a woman and her 6-year-old daughter as they exited the store.
Cristiane Souza de Oliveira, 40s, suffered significant injuries in the accident. Emergency personnel transported her to a hospital for treatment.
The impact threw Souza de Oliveira backward. Her daughter became trapped under the vehicle and was dragged approximately 500 feet as the driver attempted to flee.
Authorities later arrested the driver. Officials charged her with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and reckless driving with serious bodily injury.
The investigation remains ongoing.
