Cresteen Miller struck, killed in Kershaw hit-and-run, SCHP says

KERSHAW, SC, (April 28, 2026) – An 83-year-old woman died Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in Kershaw, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Authorities said Cresteen Miller was walking along U.S. 521 near the intersection of Pine Ridge Drive at approximately 9 p.m. when a southbound vehicle struck her. The driver fled the scene immediately without stopping to render aid.

Emergency responders airlifted Miller to Prisma Health Richland for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at around 11 p.m., the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office confirmed.

Officials have not released a description of the vehicle or identified the driver involved in the crash.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact authorities as the investigation continues.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In many hit-and-run incidents, drivers leave the scene believing they can escape accountability. However, once identified, they can face serious criminal charges.

Fleeing the scene of a crash is illegal, yet data shows that more than one hit-and-run accident occurs every minute across U.S. roadways.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, emphasized that in these situations it is crucial to have an independent investigation carried out quickly by a qualified attorney to help protect the victim’s rights.

“Access to proper resources is essential to thoroughly examine a hit-and-run case and establish negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Factors such as roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting are all reviewed as part of the investigation,” Bond added.

These steps are vital in helping families who have lost a loved one in a hit-and-run crash pursue justice and potential financial recovery.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

As the investigation moves forward, the family of Cresteen Miller may have the option to file a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other related damages.

“The emotional impact after losing a loved one in such a tragic event can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficulties families face during these times, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can follow the investigation closely and help ensure the family’s best interests are represented,” Formica added.
