Columbia Teen Hurt After Crash on Rt Z Near I-70 in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, MO — June 3, 2026 — A 17-year-old Columbia teenager suffered severe injuries Wednesday evening after a two-vehicle collision on Route Z in Boone County, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m. near the intersection of Route Z and Interstate 70. The teen was driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata southbound on Route Z when an eastbound 2022 Toyota Corolla failed to yield while attempting a left turn and struck the Hyundai, MSHP said.

The teen driver sustained severe injuries and was transported to University Hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the collision. The identity of the minor has not been released by authorities.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

When a driver holds the right-of-way, all other motorists are required by law to yield, allowing safe passage through an intersection. Failure to do so places other drivers at serious risk of injury.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 2.2 million people were injured in motor vehicle accidents across the country in 2023.

“It is imperative to come to a determination of the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

Bond noted that in cases such as this, launching an independent investigation as early as possible is essential to preserving critical evidence before it is lost.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” added Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney. “A lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct drivers’ background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide an injury victim through what can be a complicated process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the teen victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and worry following a serious injury can be all-consuming, disrupting every aspect of a victim’s life, including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It is vital for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, which allows them to negotiate with an insurance company on behalf of a client,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” he added.
