Colton Sanders, Jasmine Ambs killed in Aiken County motorcycle wreck

AIKEN, SC, (April 05, 2026) – Two young people lost their lives in a tragic Easter morning collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle in Aiken County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, 21-year-old Colton Sanders was operating a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle westbound along the 2000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway at approximately 10:51 a.m. At that time, a 2020 Subaru attempted to turn into a church parking lot and entered the motorcycle’s path, resulting in a collision.

Sanders suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said a passenger on the motorcycle, identified as 17-year-old Jasmine Ambs, also died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Subaru was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not disclosed.

The incident remains under active investigation.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

With limited protective features and a smaller profile, motorcycles leave riders especially vulnerable on the road. Even relatively minor impacts can result in catastrophic injuries or fatalities.

More than 6,300 motorcyclists were killed on U.S. roadways in 2023, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data. These deaths accounted for 15% of all traffic fatalities that year. In South Carolina alone, 151 motorcyclists lost their lives in 2023, based on the same report.

“Motorcyclists and their passengers are among the most exposed motorists on the road, and a variety of factors can contribute to deadly crashes,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Driver blind spots, lack of experience, and distracted driving are common contributors in these incidents. In many cases, accident reconstruction specialists and even motorcycle manufacturing experts are needed to determine exactly what occurred,” Bond, a seasoned motorcycle accident attorney, added.

“Every case is different and requires a detailed and timely investigation. Families must ensure that evidence is preserved and examined efficiently. An attorney has the ability to consult expert witnesses, review driver histories, and analyze available insurance coverage. These steps are essential in helping grieving families pursue justice and rightful compensation,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the families of Colton Sanders and Jasmine Ambs could pursue wrongful death claims. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The emotional toll after losing a loved one in a motorcycle accident can be devastating,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We recognize the hardships families face, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests remain safeguarded.”

“An experienced attorney can stand up to large insurance companies and their legal teams while thoroughly reviewing the details of the crash. Legal counsel will work diligently to ensure that a grieving family’s rights are upheld and that they receive the justice they deserve.”
