COLLEGE PARK, GA (June 4, 2026) — A 37-year-old landscape worker died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle near an Interstate 85 exit ramp in College Park, Fulton County, while the driver initially fled the scene, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
Troopers identified the victim as Celestino Pora-Carrillo. GSP said the crash took place at approximately 3:17 p.m. in the grass gore area near the I-85 Northbound exit ramp at Exit 75 and North Inner Loop Road. Pora-Carrillo and a fellow landscape worker were performing routine roadway maintenance when a white Chevrolet Malibu veered off the right side of the highway and struck both men. The cause of the vehicle’s deviation from the roadway has not been determined.
Pora-Carrillo was transported by emergency responders to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The second landscape worker, whose identity has not been released, sustained serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu initially left the scene without stopping. During the course of the investigation, however, a man approached officers with the College Park Police Department and identified himself as the driver responsible for the collision. He was immediately taken into custody. Criminal charges against the detained suspect are currently pending.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Troop C Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
