Seven people were injured in a school bus crash near Minco on Sept. 8, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The bus, driven by Cody Schmidt, 38, of Minco, was traveling west on Oklahoma 152 near County Street 2760 at around 8 p.m. when Schmidt swerved left to avoid a deer. The vehicle struck the animal and overturned once before coming to rest on its wheels. Schmidt, Minco High School’s head softball coach, was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.
The bus had 18 passengers returning from a softball game in Anadarko. Four were ejected during the rollover. One adult sustained life-threatening injuries, two children were critically injured, and three others sustained non-serious injuries. Emergency personnel transported the injured to various Oklahoma City hospitals, while some adults drove others to receive medical attention.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
