Cody Ritter Hurt in Hoke Road Head-on Accident Clayton

CLAYTON, OH (April 17, 2026) – Two people were killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in Clayton on April 17.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), a Hyundai Elantra traveling southbound on Hoke Road failed to yield at Westbrook Road and collided with a westbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by 39-year-old Cody Ritter of Greenville at approximately 3:50 p.m.

Authorities said Ritter was injured in the crash and transported to Miami Valley North for treatment. A passenger in his vehicle was also taken to the same hospital.

The driver of the Hyundai, an 83-year-old man, and his 79-year-old passenger both died as a result of the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

When a motorist has the right-of-way, other drivers are required to yield to ensure safe passage through an intersection.

According to Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, failure-to-yield crashes are frequently caused by driver negligence. Common contributing factors include impatience, reckless behavior, and distracted driving. Nearly 40 percent of traffic accidents occur at intersections.

“It is essential to determine the precise cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and identify witnesses. We guide the family of the victim through every step of the process,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“In addition to reviewing a police report, an attorney will also analyze all contributing factors,” Bond added. “A lawyer can bring in expert witnesses, locate key witnesses, and review insurance policies. Acting as an advocate, an attorney helps guide an injured victim through what can often be a complex process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Cody Ritter may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim depending on the outcome of the investigation.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, stated, “Victims injured in collisions often pursue personal injury claims to recover expenses such as medical bills, ongoing treatment costs, lost wages, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies are often indifferent to the financial strain faced by injured individuals. An attorney can step in to protect victims’ rights and ensure that insurance providers are held accountable for their responsibilities,” he added.
