Clarendon County I-95 Crash Kills Kenneth Darrell, Injures One

CLARENDON COUNTY, SC (June 29, 2026) — A 54-year-old Washington, D.C. man died and a passenger was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Clarendon County early Monday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a 2026 Subaru Outback driven by Kenneth Charles Darrell was traveling northbound on I-95 at about 12:36 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway near mile marker 132 and struck a tree.

Darrell was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under active investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Nationwide, an estimated 2.2 million people were injured in motor vehicle crashes in 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

NHTSA identifies speeding as the leading cause of traffic crashes, followed by impairment from alcohol, drugs, or medication, failure to remain in the proper lane, failure to yield the right of way, and distracted driving.

“It’s essential to determine the exact cause of accidents like this one. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, retain expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and track down witnesses. We carefully guide the victim’s family through every step of the process,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

Bond noted that in cases like this, launching an independent investigation as early as possible is important for preserving evidence.

“Beyond the police report, an attorney will thoroughly examine what factors may have contributed to the crash,” added Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney with Accident Injury News. “A lawyer has the resources to retain expert witnesses, conduct background checks on drivers, locate crash witnesses, and review applicable insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can help guide an injury victim through what is often a complicated process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured passenger may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, noted that the stress and anxiety following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting every part of life, including family, work, finances, and overall quality of life.

“It’s essential for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, which allows them to negotiate with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies are often unconcerned with the mounting costs an injured party may face. An attorney can step in to help. We work to protect victims of these tragedies every day, holding insurance companies accountable for their mistakes,” he added.
