DALLAS, Texas — A wrong-way accident involving multiple vehicles happened May 12 on the Dallas North Tollway near Royal Lane. Officials said a car traveling north in the southbound lanes struck another vehicle head-on.
Authorities identified the injured passenger as Chuanteya Weaver, 24. Emergency personnel transported her to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.
Weaver rode in a 2016 Nissan Altima at 1:20 a.m. when a 2017 Nissan Altima traveling the wrong way struck the vehicle.
The wrong-way driver sideswiped a tractor-trailer before hitting Weaver’s vehicle. The impact caused severe damage, multiple injuries, and one fatality.
A 28-year-old female passenger in Weaver’s vehicle died at the scene. A 50-year-old male driving the wrong-way vehicle was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Two other passengers in Weaver’s vehicle suffered serious injuries.
DPS continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION
Wrong-way accidents can occur for numerous reasons, including driver error, distracted driving, and poor road design.
The most common cause of these accidents is driver error. However, the most common cause of wrong-way collisions is DUI, according to NTSB. Statistics show that impaired drivers cause up to 75 percent of all wrong-way crashes.
“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and require thorough examination,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.
“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
Chuanteya Weaver may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim pending an investigation.
Bond said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.
“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” she added.
