Chrystelle Delong hurt in Iowa accident after stop sign violation

MUSCATINE, IA, (April 13, 2026) – Chrystelle Delong, 58, of Muscatine, was injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash involving SUVs, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Authorities said the collision occurred around 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of 155th Street and Highway 38. A Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 67-year-old Moscow woman was traveling eastbound when it failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a northbound Hyundai Santa Fe operated by Delong.

Delong sustained injuries and was airlifted to the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center in Iowa City for treatment. Two additional individuals, a 27-year-old Muscatine woman and a 37-year-old Moscow woman, were also injured and transported for medical care.

The driver of the Pathfinder was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.

TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Traffic laws clearly require drivers to stop at all traffic signals. However, violations of these rules continue to lead to serious crashes such as the one that left Delong injured.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, nearly 40% of vehicle collisions occur at intersections, often due to drivers running stop signs or traffic lights. Common contributing factors include impatience, reckless driving, and distractions behind the wheel.

Regardless of the findings of any official investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent review to secure evidence and safeguard victims’ rights.

“Time is critical in cases like this, and injured victims must ensure that evidence is reviewed promptly,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Beyond law enforcement efforts, an attorney can evaluate contributing factors and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses, and review insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can guide victims through this difficult time while protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, Chrystelle Delong may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim for damages including medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“Injured victims involved in a crash often pursue personal injury claims to recover various financial losses,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. “Insurance companies are often indifferent to the increasing costs faced by victims. An attorney can provide essential support, helping ensure that victims are protected and that insurance companies are held accountable.”
