LUMBERTON, NC, (March 29, 2026) – A head-on crash Sunday morning near Lumberton claimed the life of a Hope Mills man and left two others injured, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Authorities said a westbound Mazda crossed the centerline on NC Highway 211 at about 10:44 a.m. and collided head-on with an eastbound Cadillac. The Mazda overturned and came to rest in a field, while the Cadillac left the roadway after impact.
Christopher Lynn Sweatt Cummings, 20, a front-seat passenger in the Mazda, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Mazda’s driver, a 19-year-old Lumberton man, was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The Cadillac’s driver was airlifted to Grand Strand Medical Center. Speed and impairment are suspected factors, and the investigation is ongoing.
