FLUSHING, NY, (June 29, 2026) – A 13-year-old boy died Monday afternoon after a scooter accident in Flushing that also left a second teen critically injured.
According to the NYPD, a scooter carrying two boys was traveling north on 162nd Street near 46th Avenue at approximately 12:40 p.m. when the operator swerved to avoid the open door of a parked Honda CR-V. The passenger fell off the back of the scooter and was struck by a northbound Hino truck.
Christopher Cabrera, 13, of College Point, suffered severe head and body trauma and was pronounced dead at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital.
The scooter’s operator, also 13 years old, was transported to a hospital with critical injuries. Both the driver of the truck and the driver of the Honda remained at the scene and were not injured.
The NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash.
