Christine Shaub killed in Lincoln DUI collision on Logan Street

LINCOLN, IL, (May 21, 2026) – A 66-year-old woman lost her life and another driver now faces criminal charges following a two-vehicle crash Thursday night in Lincoln, according to police.

The collision happened at approximately 9:38 p.m. near the intersection of North Logan Street and Peoria Street. Authorities said a Lincoln MKX struck the rear of a Chrysler minivan under circumstances that remain under investigation.

A passenger in the minivan, identified as Christine Shaub, was transported to Lincoln Memorial Hospital after the crash. Despite emergency medical efforts, Shaub was later pronounced deceased.

Police said the 39-year-old driver of the Lincoln MKX was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated DUI.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision. No additional information regarding other injuries or contributing factors has been released at this time.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Despite continued enforcement efforts nationwide, impaired drivers still pose a major danger to innocent motorists and passengers.

Alcohol consumption can severely reduce a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. Drivers under the influence often experience impaired judgment, slowed reaction times, reduced coordination, and limited vision awareness.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 37 people die each day in drunk-driving crashes across the United States. Roughly 32% of all fatal traffic crashes involve drivers with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of .08 or higher. In Illinois alone, an estimated 471 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in 2022.

Investigators will conduct an independent review to determine additional contributing circumstances in the case, including possible BAC test results and other evidence.

Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, shared her perspective regarding incidents such as this.

“Separate from criminal charges, a victim may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Beyond the work conducted by law enforcement, an attorney can review surveillance footage, speak with witnesses again, and secure important records tied to the liable driver. Serving as an advocate, legal counsel can help protect victims and families during a difficult period while working to hold impaired drivers accountable.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Christine Shaub may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for damages including loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and pain and suffering after a tragic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the hardships families face in the aftermath of a fatal crash, and protecting their legal rights is critically important. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests remain protected throughout the process.”
