Sheriff: Christine Possin dies in Owatonna head-on DUI wreck

OWATONNA, MN, (November 04, 2025) — Christine Ilene Possin, 71, was tragically killed on Nov. 4 in a head-on collision involving an alleged drunk driver in Owatonna, MN.

According to the Steele County Sheriff’s Office, Possin was driving an SUV when it collided with a pickup truck driven by 26-year-old David Ramirez at the intersection of 37th Avenue Southwest and 93rd Street Southwest. Deputies said Ramirez was found in the passenger seat of Possin’s vehicle. He later admitted to drinking two beers and stated he had been driving the pickup before the crash. Ramirez has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide and gross misdemeanor DWI.

Possin is survived by her husband, nine children, and 42 grandchildren, according to her obituary

DWI CRASH INVESTIGATION

Minnesota experiences approximately 75 drunk-driving deaths annually and more than 2,200 injuries connected to impaired-driving incidents.

An estimated 68 DUI arrests occur every day statewide, and about one in seven Minnesotans has at least one DUI offense. Impaired drivers contribute to nearly one-third of Minnesota’s fatal crashes — tragedies that are entirely preventable and demonstrate the severe dangers posed by driving under the influence.

An independent investigation is essential to determine whether additional factors played a role in the collision, including the official results of the suspect’s blood-alcohol testing. Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, shared her insight regarding such cases.

“Separate from the criminal charges, a victim’s family may also seek compensation through a civil claim against the responsible party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “By serving as an advocate, an attorney can guide grieving families with compassion, safeguard their rights, and ensure drunk drivers are held fully accountable for their reckless actions.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Christine Ilene Possin may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of fatal accident victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional pain, suffering, and other impacts resulting from such a tragic event.

“We know how devastating these losses are for families, and ensuring their rights are protected is critically important,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will follow the findings of the official investigation and work to ensure the family’s best interests are upheld. Families may pursue damages for emotional distress, loss of companionship, and pain and suffering after a catastrophic or fatal incident.”
