ORO GRANDE, CA, (May 13, 2026) – A 19-year-old Oro Grande resident and recent Riverside Preparatory School graduate lost his life Wednesday morning following a head-on collision in San Bernardino County.
According to San Bernardino County coroner’s officials, Cody Howell was driving a Chevrolet Suburban southbound on National Trails Highway just north of Robinson Ranch Road shortly before 7 a.m. when the SUV collided head-on with a northbound Ram 2500 pickup truck.
Authorities said Howell was traveling with a female passenger at the time of the crash. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but Howell tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
The female passenger in Howell’s vehicle and the driver of the pickup truck were transported to area hospitals for treatment, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officials also confirmed that an online fundraiser has been launched to assist Howell’s family following the tragedy.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation.
