Cheryl Miron killed after being hit by car in LaFayette NY

TOWN OF LAFAYETTE, NY, (April 12, 2026) – Cheryl Miron, 79, of Fayetteville, was tragically killed early Sunday morning in a pedestrian crash in Onondaga County, according to state troopers.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 1:37 a.m. on Shute Road, where a Subaru driven by a 46-year-old East Syracuse woman was reportedly traveling erratically through residential yards at a high rate of speed.

Investigators determined that Miron was struck by the vehicle prior to police arrival and then hit again after troopers reached the scene. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two additional pedestrians were also struck and transported to hospitals with unspecified injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.

FATAL HIT-AND-RUN PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, shared her perspective on incidents such as this one.

“Separate from any criminal proceedings, a victim’s family may have the right to pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Beyond the work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review surveillance footage from the crash site, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party.”

Bond further added, “Serving as an advocate, an attorney can compassionately assist families during this difficult time, ensuring their rights are protected while holding drivers accountable for failing to follow traffic laws.”

There were an estimated 737,100 hit-and-run crashes in the United States in 2015, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), averaging one every 43 seconds. NHTSA also reported that 2,049 fatalities from hit-and-run crashes in 2016 marked the highest number ever recorded.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Cheryl Miron may be eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking damages for loss of companionship, funeral costs, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.

“It is important for families of victims to retain an attorney when pursuing a wrongful death claim, as this allows proper negotiation with insurance companies,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. “Insurance companies often attempt to pressure families into accepting quick settlements that are far less than what the claim may truly be worth. An attorney will strongly advocate to ensure fair treatment and compensation.”
