Chelan U.S. 97 crash kills Ella Weaver in head-on collision

CHELAN, WA, (May 01, 2026) – A 20-year-old Eastsound woman, identified as Ella Weaver, was tragically killed Friday night in a head-on crash on U.S. 97 near the Beebe Bridge in Chelan County.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), Weaver was a passenger in a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was struck at approximately 9:15 p.m. by a southbound GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by a 47-year-old man. Authorities said the pickup crossed the centerline into the northbound lane and collided with the Jeep and a Honda Civic.

Weaver and the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee were both killed in the crash. Two occupants of the Honda Civic were injured and transported for medical care.

The crash remains under active investigation.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, stated that multiple factors may lead to head-on collisions, including distracted driving, driver fatigue, impairment, speeding, and unsafe roadway conditions.

According to the Insurance Information Institute, approximately 3,631 motorists die each year in head-on crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has also reported that frontal impact crashes carry a 58 percent fatality rate for occupants annually.

Bond emphasized that in cases like this, it is essential to conduct an independent investigation promptly to help preserve critical evidence for grieving families.

“An attorney can gather key evidence to help establish whether a driver’s conduct was reckless, which requires extensive resources,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “As an advocate, an attorney can compassionately support a grieving family, protect their legal rights, and work to ensure accountability when traffic laws are violated.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Ella Weaver may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain, and suffering resulting from a tragic accident.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will stay informed on the official investigation and ensure that the family’s best interests are protected. Relatives may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such a devastating loss.”
