ENCINO, CA, (April 25, 2026) – A 19-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on the 101 Freeway in Encino, according to authorities.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Chaz Castillo.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident began just before 2 a.m. when a vehicle became disabled after striking the center divider near White Oak Avenue and remained in the first lane with its hazard lights on.
Authorities said a second vehicle then collided with the stalled car at a high rate of speed. Shortly afterward, a third vehicle struck one of the stopped vehicles, resulting in a chain-reaction crash.
Castillo, one of the drivers who had exited his vehicle, was fatally injured during the collision.
Officials have not confirmed whether others were injured. The investigation remains ongoing.
