Coroner: Chase Alan Murray killed in Birmingham pedestrian accident

BIRMINGHAM, AL, (April 10, 2026) — A 28-year-old Hayden man was tragically killed early Friday morning following a pedestrian crash on Interstate 65 in Birmingham, authorities said.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Chase Alan Murray had been involved in a two-vehicle collision in the southbound lanes near the 17th Street North exit. After the crash, both vehicles moved onto opposite shoulders.

Murray exited his vehicle and attempted to cross the roadway when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle at approximately 5:27 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:03 a.m.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The Birmingham Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash.

Pedestrians typically have the right of way in many roadway interactions, including crosswalks and sidewalks. Drivers are required to yield to pedestrians and bicyclists in these situations.

In 2022, there were 345 pedestrian fatalities reported, marking a 12% increase from 307 in 2021, according to official data.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, stated that incidents like this are often linked to distracted driving, negligence, speeding, or failure to yield.

“Having the proper resources is essential to investigate a pedestrian accident and establish liability,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Every case must be examined carefully. Time is critical, and families must ensure evidence is preserved and reviewed promptly. Attorneys can interview expert witnesses, perform background checks, and evaluate insurance coverage. These steps are vital to help families obtain justice and compensation,” added Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“In many cases, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing streets, whether in marked crosswalks or not, and drivers are expected to yield,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

Pending the investigation, the family of Chase Alan Murray may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such a tragic loss.

“Families often feel overwhelmed by the legal process during such difficult times. An attorney can provide guidance and support while ensuring their rights are protected and they receive the compensation they deserve,” Formica added.
