Charlotte Heins dies in Saginaw garbage truck collision

SAGINAW, MI, (April 10, 2026) – A 76-year-old woman was killed in a crash involving a garbage truck early Friday morning in Saginaw, according to police.

Charlotte Heins was driving a Chevrolet Cruze eastbound on Clark Street when a southbound Peterbilt Waste Management truck struck the driver’s side of her vehicle at the intersection with Hill Street shortly after 5 a.m.

Emergency responders extricated Heins from her vehicle and attempted life-saving measures at the scene. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Saginaw Police Department continues to investigate the incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, an experienced commercial accident attorney, stated that in cases like this, it is important to conduct a prompt independent investigation to protect a victim’s rights.

“Commercial vehicle accidents are often complex and can involve multiple contributing factors,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“An experienced attorney can help protect victims from trucking companies, which frequently deploy their own investigators to crash scenes and have significant resources to defend negligent drivers.

“Legal counsel can advocate on behalf of victims by securing expert witnesses, reviewing driver histories, identifying witnesses, and examining insurance coverage, while guiding them through the legal process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of the victim may pursue compensation for damages such as costs associated with the death, loss of income and companionship, and other hardships.

“The loss of a loved one in an accident is both tragic and devastating for a family. The grief, shock, and emotional pain can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

He added, “Beyond the emotional toll, such a loss can also create significant financial burdens. Loss of income and funeral expenses alone can have serious consequences for surviving family members.”
