COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Police Department officers responded to a fatal crash at Constitution Avenue and Alpine Drive on June 21.
Charles Carlton, age 61, of Colorado Springs died from injuries sustained in the collision. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office identified Carlton following the evening accident.
Officers found a crash between a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Toyota RAV4 at the intersection. The pickup truck traveled west on Constitution Avenue while Carlton drove his Toyota eastbound.
Carlton attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Alpine Drive when the collision occurred. The Dodge struck his Toyota during the turning maneuver.
Paramedics transported Carlton to a local hospital following the accident. He died from his injuries at the medical facility.
Police have not released the identity of the pickup truck driver. Investigators believe speed and impairment contributed to the fatal crash.
The Colorado Springs Police Department continues to investigate.
