Pedestrian Charles Bunnel killed in Sappington truck crash, police say

SAPPINGTON, MO, (April 19, 2026) – A tragic pedestrian crash in Sappington on Sunday night claimed the life of a 10-year-old boy, identified as Charles Bunnel.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department (SLCPD), officers responded to the intersection of Gravois Road and Cinnabar Drive shortly before 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a truck. Preliminary findings indicate that a pickup truck traveling along Gravois Road hit Charles as he was running across the roadway.

Authorities said the driver stopped immediately following the collision and remained at the scene with the child until emergency personnel arrived.

Charles was found in the eastbound lanes with critical injuries and was transported to a nearby medical facility. Despite life-saving efforts, he later died from his injuries.

Investigators noted that there was no indication of impairment being a factor in the crash. The incident remains under active investigation by SLCPD.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Each year, a significant number of pedestrians are killed in traffic collisions across the United States, many of which could be prevented. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, an estimated 3,304 pedestrians lost their lives in the first half of 2024 alone.

“Having the proper resources is critically important when investigating a pedestrian accident and establishing negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Factors such as road design, visibility of signage, and lighting conditions may all contribute to a crash and must be carefully reviewed. A thorough investigation helps families pursue justice after a devastating loss,” Bond added.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction experts are required to determine exactly what occurred. These tools are essential in helping victims’ families secure compensation for their losses,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is generally the responsibility of drivers to yield to pedestrians,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Charles Bunnel may have grounds for a wrongful death claim.

“Relatives of wrongful death victims can pursue compensation for loss of companionship, financial support, emotional suffering, and funeral-related expenses,” Formica explained.

An experienced attorney can serve as a crucial advocate, guiding families through the legal process while ensuring their rights are protected during a difficult time.

“Insurance companies often attempt to resolve claims quickly for less than their true value,” Formica added. “Legal representation helps ensure victims’ families are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
