OAKLAND, CA, (May 16, 2026) – A 65-year-old man, Charles Blackmon, was killed Saturday night in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash in Oakland, according to police.
Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. near East Bay Market & Liquor at the intersection of 85th Avenue and International Boulevard. Police reported that Blackmon was standing outside the business when a pickup truck veered onto the sidewalk and struck multiple pedestrians.
Investigators confirmed that Blackmon and two other men died as a result of the collision. Three additional individuals sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Police said the driver of the pickup truck was a 17-year-old who was allegedly traveling at speeds exceeding 50 mph in a 25-mph zone at the time of the crash. The teen was later arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.
The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing.
