Chandra Puckett fatally struck in Chauvin LA Highway 56 accident

CHAUVIN, LA (April 17, 2026) – A 41-year-old man, identified as Chandra Puckett, was killed early Friday morning following a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash in Chauvin, Terrebonne Parish.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the incident occurred just before 3 a.m. along Louisiana Highway 56. Authorities said Puckett was standing in the northbound lane when he was struck by a 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van traveling in the same direction.

Puckett sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van remained at the location and was not injured. Officials have not released the driver’s identity.

The crash remains under investigation.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Regardless of fault, collisions involving vehicles and pedestrians often result in severe consequences for those on foot. While all road users must follow safety laws, drivers carry a significant responsibility to remain vigilant.

Drivers struck and killed an estimated 7,508 pedestrians in 2022, the highest number in four decades, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, stated that such crashes may result from multiple factors, including driver inexperience, failure to follow traffic laws, reckless behavior, unfamiliarity with roadways, or impairment.

“Each case is different and deserves a thorough and timely investigation. Families must ensure that evidence is preserved and examined quickly. Attorneys can coordinate expert testimony, perform background checks, and evaluate insurance coverage to help families pursue rightful compensation,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Accident reconstruction experts may also be necessary to determine exactly what occurred. These steps are critical to helping victims’ families recover damages after a tragic loss,” added Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Chandra Puckett may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from such incidents.

“In many situations, pedestrians have the right of way while crossing roads, whether marked or not. Drivers must remain alert and yield accordingly,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“Determining the precise cause of these accidents is essential. Legal professionals can review insurance policies, engage experts, conduct background checks, and identify witnesses while assisting families throughout the legal process,” Formica added.

“The loss of a loved one brings immense grief and financial strain. Funeral costs and lost income can place a heavy burden on families already dealing with emotional trauma,” he said.
