Chain-reaction crash on US 27 in Haralson injures Chaston Perry

HARALSON, GA, (March 21, 2026) — A 17-year-old Buchanan resident, Chaston Perry, was seriously injured Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle rear-end crash on U.S. 27 in Haralson County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Authorities said a Chevrolet Tahoe stopped in the southbound lane for an animal at about 11:30 a.m., prompting Perry, who was driving a Honda Civic, to stop behind it. A Chevrolet Silverado traveling south failed to stop and struck the Civic, pushing it into the Tahoe.

A fourth vehicle, a Ford Fusion, was also involved in the chain-reaction collision. An 18-year-old passenger in the Civic was killed in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that distracted driving is responsible for nearly 90 percent of rear-end collisions. Common distractions include texting, adjusting in-vehicle controls, observing roadside activity, or interacting with passengers. Other contributing factors include speeding, tailgating, aggressive driving, and impaired driving.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reports that rear-end crashes result in approximately 950,000 injuries and 2,000 deaths annually. Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized that in incidents like this, it is crucial to initiate an independent investigation promptly to preserve key evidence for injured victims.

“In addition to the thorough work conducted by law enforcement, an attorney can gather critical evidence to demonstrate whether a driver acted negligently,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “This includes re-interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and securing phone and text records of the responsible party. An attorney also serves as an advocate, helping guide victims through the legal process while protecting their rights and best interests.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Chaston Perry may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted that the emotional and financial strain following a serious injury can disrupt every aspect of a victim’s life, including family, employment, and overall well-being.

“While no amount of compensation can undo a serious injury, it is essential that victims understand their legal rights and the remedies available to them,” Bond said. “An injured individual may be eligible to pursue damages for medical expenses, future treatment, lost income, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.”
