Cazh’mere Green succumbs to injuries after Jeep accident in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, MO, (April 18, 2026) – A 19-year-old Kansas City man has died days after being injured in a single-vehicle crash shortly after midnight Saturday in Independence, authorities said.

According to Independence police, Cazh’mere Green was a passenger in a Jeep Grand Cherokee that left the roadway near East Truman Road and Glenwood Avenue. The vehicle traveled off a grass embankment and struck a large tree.

Green sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to those injuries on Wednesday.

The driver of the Jeep was also seriously injured and hospitalized.

The crash remains under investigation.

FATAL SINGLE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Police said speed played a role in the crash, which remains under active investigation. Tragically, about 36,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents each year in the United States, with speeding identified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as a leading factor in fatal crashes. Other contributing elements can include impairment from alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain lane position, failure to yield, and distracted driving.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that in situations like this, it is critical that a thorough independent investigation is conducted by an experienced attorney. This process allows victims and their families to effectively deal with insurance companies.

Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News, emphasized that while no financial recovery can replace the loss of a loved one, proper legal representation remains essential.

“Insurance companies often attempt to pressure families into accepting quick settlements that are significantly lower than what a case may be worth,” Bond said. “They are motivated to minimize payouts and frequently overlook the long-term impact on families. Attorneys work diligently to ensure victims and their families are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Based on the available information, the family of Cazh’mere Green may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim seeking damages for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and pain and suffering.

“A wrongful death claim is a civil action filed by the estate or surviving family members of the deceased to recover financial damages,” Bond explained. “It is separate from any criminal proceedings and follows its own legal process.”

“The passenger may also file a claim with the insurance provider of the vehicle involved if the driver is found liable,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal. “Such a claim does not affect the victim’s personal insurance policy, as it is made against another party’s coverage.”
