PORTLAND, OR, (April 29, 2026) – One person was seriously injured Wednesday night in a crash involving a driver fleeing from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) in Portland.
According to authorities, deputies attempted to stop a BMW SUV driven by 30-year-old Casey Padula at approximately 9:30 p.m. near Southeast Grand Avenue and Harrison Street after he nearly collided with a patrol vehicle. Padula allegedly refused to comply and continued driving, prompting deputies to pursue.
The chase proceeded onto Interstate 205 before Padula exited at Southeast Stark Street. During the pursuit, he reportedly sideswiped a pickup truck, causing it to overturn. The driver of the pickup sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Padula was later apprehended and taken into custody. He faces multiple charges, including felony eluding, reckless driving, felony driving while suspended, hit-and-run, and four counts of reckless endangerment.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and crash.
