Carter Heise killed; three others injured in Plano vehicle collision

PLANO, TX, (March 2, 2026) — A tragic Monday afternoon crash in Plano claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy from Murphy and left three others injured, according to authorities.

The teen was identified as Carter Heise. Police reported that a blue Chevrolet Volt was traveling at an “excessive speed” southbound on Independence Parkway near West Plano Parkway when the driver lost control, crossed the median, and collided with a northbound white Lincoln Navigator carrying four people, including Heise.

Carter Heise was pronounced dead at the scene. The three other passengers were transported to a local hospital, though their conditions were not immediately available.

Authorities have not released information regarding potential charges.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Several factors contribute to the rise in traffic fatalities, with driver behavior at the core—including speeding, driving under the influence, and distracted driving, particularly cellphone use. Excessive speed is involved in nearly a third of U.S. traffic deaths annually. It reduces reaction time, increases crash severity, and endangers all road users. In 2023, speeding accounted for 11,775 fatalities, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

While the cause and liability of this crash remain under investigation, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation conducted by a skilled attorney.

“In addition to the thorough work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview witnesses, analyze surveillance footage from the scene, and review phone or texting records of the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is critical in cases like this, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is collected and examined efficiently.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, family members of Carter Heise may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims allow relatives to seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain, and suffering following a catastrophic accident.

“Losing a loved one is not only emotionally devastating but can also have significant economic consequences,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal. “If your family member has been killed due to someone else’s negligence, a wrongful death attorney can provide guidance to help secure justice.”

“Insurance companies may attempt to exploit your lack of legal knowledge by offering low settlements or denying claims. An attorney ensures your rights are protected and helps you avoid being taken advantage of.”
