Carolee Wise killed in 210th St semi-truck accident Algona Iowa

ALGONA, IA, (April 27, 2026) — A 47-year-old Emmetsburg woman, identified as Carolee Wise, was killed Monday morning in a crash involving a semi-truck in Algona, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Authorities said Wise was driving a Chevrolet Equinox eastbound on 210th Street at approximately 10:30 a.m. when it collided with a Peterbilt tractor-trailer traveling south on 90th Avenue. Investigators reported that the semi-truck driver, a 40-year-old Nebraska resident, failed to stop at the intersection, leading to the crash.

Wise was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in her vehicle, identified as 76-year-old Bernadette Wise of Emmetsburg, was transported to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona with unspecified injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck was also taken to a hospital with injuries that were not detailed.

The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

FATAL SEMI-TRUCK ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The investigation remains ongoing. Multiple factors can contribute to crashes involving tractor-trailers, including driver fatigue, loss of vehicle control, or mechanical failures that may be either disabling or non-disabling.

Candice Bond, an experienced tractor-trailer accident attorney, emphasized the importance of conducting a prompt and independent investigation to protect the rights of victims’ families.

“Accidents involving large trucks are often complex and can involve numerous contributing factors,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “An experienced attorney can help protect families from trucking companies, which often deploy their own investigators and have significant resources to defend drivers. Legal counsel can assist by hiring expert witnesses, reviewing driver histories, locating witnesses, and examining insurance coverage, all while guiding families through the legal process.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 5,788 people were killed in crashes involving large trucks in 2021, a 17% increase from 2020. Additionally, 72% of those killed were occupants of other vehicles.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the family of Carolee Wise may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members may seek compensation for loss of companionship, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such a tragic incident.

“The emotional burden after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand the challenges families face, and ensuring their rights are protected is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the progress of the investigation and help safeguard the family’s legal interests.”

Additionally, Bernadette Wise may have grounds to file a personal injury claim to recover damages related to medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
