Carol Fowler Fatally Struck in Jackson Co I-57 Pedestrian Crash

JACKSON, AR (July 3, 2026) — An 85-year-old Illinois woman was killed early Friday after being struck by a vehicle while on Interstate 57 in Jackson County, according to the Arkansas State Police.

The victim was identified as Carol Fowler, of New Lenox, Illinois.

Troopers said Fowler entered the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 near milepost 84 at approximately 4:19 a.m. when she was struck by a 2021 Toyota Corolla.

Fowler suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla was not injured. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity.

Arkansas State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian crash.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Every year, many pedestrians lose their lives on U.S. roadways. Approximately 3,304 pedestrians were struck and killed by drivers on U.S. roads during the first half of 2024, according to a report from the Governors Highway Safety Association.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and roadway lighting are among the factors that investigators carefully examine. These steps are essential in helping families who have lost a loved one pursue the justice they deserve,” Bond added.

“An accident reconstruction team may also be needed to determine exactly how the collision occurred. These resources play an important role in helping clients recover compensation for damages or losses after a crash,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of a victim may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Surviving family members may seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” Formica said.

Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide a grieving family through the legal process while protecting their rights and interests.

“Insurance companies often attempt to persuade victims to accept a quick settlement for far less than a claim may be worth,” Formica noted. “An attorney will strongly advocate for the client to help ensure they are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”
