Carla Hyatt killed in Vinton Mazda and Chevrolet collision Hwy 109

VINTON, LA, (May 16, 2026) – A two-vehicle collision Saturday morning in Vinton claimed the life of 59-year-old Carla Hyatt, according to Louisiana State Police.

The crash occurred shortly before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 109 and Louisiana Highway 3063. Investigators said a 2023 Mazda CX-5 was traveling east on Niblett Bluff Road approaching Highway 109 while a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu was heading south.

Authorities stated that, for reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Mazda failed to yield at the intersection and collided with the Chevrolet.

Carla Hyatt, the driver of the Chevrolet and a resident of Starks, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released additional details regarding the other driver or possible injuries.

Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Each year, approximately 36,000 people lose their lives in motor vehicle accidents across the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, common causes of deadly crashes include speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, unsafe lane changes, and failure to yield the right of way.

That is why Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, said it is crucial in cases such as this to conduct a timely independent investigation to secure evidence and safeguard the rights of victims’ families.

“Our role as attorneys is to provide legal guidance and support to families who have lost loved ones in serious accidents,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “We work to help protect their rights and ensure statements made to police or insurance companies are not unfairly used against them.”

Bond added, “An attorney will examine all factors that may have contributed to the collision and can utilize resources to hire expert witnesses, review driver histories, identify witnesses, and analyze insurance coverage. An experienced advocate can help families through this difficult process while protecting their legal interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Carla Hyatt may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages following a tragic accident such as this one.

“The grief and emotional trauma following the loss of a loved one in a crash can be devastating,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand the challenges families face during these situations, and protecting their legal rights is extremely important. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure the family’s best interests remain protected.”
